BY-GEN Modifier Styles

How to Use

Making use of the modifier styles in BY-GEN can be done with a few simple steps:

  1. Select an object.

  2. Use the Modify Mode drop-down from the ‘N’ menu to choose the desired style.
This menu can be toggled by pressing ‘N’ in the 3D view.
BY-GEN panels can be found under the BY-TOOLS tab.

  3. Press the ‘Apply Style’ button to apply the chosen style to the selected object.

See the location of the Modify panel in the accompanying image.

The Procedure

The modify styles are intended to be used as templates. Once they are applied to an object, you can play around with the settings of the individual modifiers by going to the modifier stack.

Auto-Generated Textures

BY-GEN will automatically create procedural textures if they are required by the style you choose. When this happens, they will be named with the following convention to make them easier to identify:

ByGen_TexID_####

If you want to quickly remove all of the textures generated by BY-GEN from your blend file, then click the Purge Textures button from the BY-GEN - Tools panel.

Extra Parameters

You may notice that as you choose different styles from the drop-down list in the BY-GEN - Modify panel, the visible parameters in the panel will change. Some styles will give you more control over settings before they are applied to the selected object, just to save you some time.
