Making a Blender Product: Afterglow

  • Part 1 - Introductory concepting, the sine wave of artistic satisfaction and foundational work, and growing ideas from a physical basis.
This first episode is a 46 minute deep-dive into my creative process, starting from almost nothing, piecing together lighting experiments, building a playground of self-inspiration, and ultimately deciding on the direction of the product going forward.

  • Part 2 - Extracting value from creative diversions, keeping a consistent thread between different projects and discussions on promotional content.
Predicting what audiences will be most interested in by allowing yourself to follow creative tangents, and bring the lessons you learn back to the main product. Another interpretation of the sine wave of creation, showing how it not only applies to artistic satisfaction and foundational work, but also how your interests may phase between different projects. In the end, we discover new priorities for the product, and get closer to a solid direction in our minds.

  • Intermission: Do you struggle with motivation?
Since I talk a lot about the theory of creativity and how to stay interested in artistic projects, I recommend taking a break between episodes two and three to watch this discussion video I made for the main YouTube channel. It contains more distilled concepts that might help people struggling with attention deficit issues to perform some introspection and see if they can make changes to their workflow with the goal of ultimately getting more done.

  • Part 3 - A massive deep-dive into building practical experiments.
Utilizing the creative philosophies outlined in the previous episodes, I will give you a narrated breakdown of a series of artistic experiments designed to explore the practical use-cases of emissive light, as either a new, or replacement technology for regular lamp objects. This episode really hits some highs in terms of artistic satisfaction, and I think you will come away with a greater understanding of what is possible in the space.

  • Part 4 - Catching up on use-case experiments, a public catalogue of content, organization for the product file.
After a small delay caused by a medical issue, in this episode I will catch you up on the progress made, showing some of the best example imagery created so far within the context of automotive visualization. Testing the studio environments for automotive projects gives inspiration for ways to improve the artistic control of the scenes.

  • Part 5 - A retrospective after release.

Principles of Creation

  • Where to Source Advice
Talking about how to build a supportive network of artists around yourself, including finding people that resonate with your personality, along with the kinds of red flags to look out for when receiving critique online. We may all measure value differently when considering other people’s opinions, and whether or not the advice you receive from anyone online is appropriate for your situation depends on many factors. What I discuss in this video is my approach of building a base of emotional support from likeminded, inspiring creators, while keeping in mind approaches to requesting expert opinions from specialists.
